Frequently Asked Questions

We combine the highest quality materials with superior craftsmanship and design, which has resulted in worldwide recognition of our brand and has made us one of the leading manufacturers of outdoor furniture. Along with our renowned range of Teak furniture, we have added contemporary designs using Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Synthetic woven fibre, Sunbrella® cushion and parasol fabrics and Textilene®.

Aluminium is lightweight and durable. We use the very best aluminium which is stronger and longer lasting. We powder-coat the aluminium to enhance its appearance and prevent oxidation, ensuring it gives long service.

To clean aluminium we recommend you use Barlow Tyrie Aluminium Cleaner®

Stainless Steel

We use two grades of stainless steel: 316 Grade, commonly known as "marine grade" and 304 Grade, more commonly used for garden furniture. Both are hard wearing and suitable for use in inland locations whilst 316 is ideal for use in marine environments, where oxidation could be a problem.

To clean Stainless Steel we recommend you use Barlow Tyrie Stainless Steel Clean and Guard®, which cleans and leaves a fine layer of Teflon on the surface to help prevent the build up of contaminants.

Synthetic woven fibre

We use the finest synthetic material that is hand-woven over a powder coated aluminium frame to produce splendid furniture that is strong, colour fast and entirely resistant to sun and rain.

To clean and maintain your woven furniture, use Barlow Tyrie Woven and Textilene Cleaner®. We have developed this product to prevent any residue remaining after the cleaning process.

Sunbrella® cushions and parasol fabrics

One of the best ways to keep our fabrics looking good, and to delay deep or vigorous cleaning, is to properly maintain the fabrics. This can be accomplished by simply brushing off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabrics, wiping up spills as soon as they occur or spot cleaning soon after stains occur.

To clean and maintain your cushions and parasols, we recommend you use soft soapy water to remove dirt, grease, oil and mould. After cleaning we recommend using Barlow Tyrie Fabric Weather Guard®. This protects the fabric from the ageing effects of the weather. We recommend you leave the cushion covers on during the cleaning process. We suggest you clean your cushions before you store them in a dry, well-ventilated area. Do not store cushions when they are wet.

Special order cushions have a 6 weeks lead time. Replacement covers are available for all cushions.

Over time, teak will naturally mellow from golden brown to a lovely silver grey patina. The following range of Barlow Tyrie products will help you care for your teak furniture:

Barlow Tyrie Teak Stain Guard® forms an invisible layer to protect your teak furniture from everyday stains such as butter, oil and red wine, making the cleaning of accidental spills an easy task.

Barlow Tyrie Teak Colour Guard®, applied when the furniture is new or after cleaning, will help maintain the golden brown colour of new teak by using pigment enhancers together with UV inhibitors to prevent the natural greying process.

Textilene® slings

We make the slings for our aluminium, stainless steel and teak furniture with this special high quality branded material made from PVC coated, polyester yarn. Using this fabric means our slings are strong and durable as well as mildew resistant, flame retardant and low maintenance. We use sonic welding to produce our slings, which results in a more aesthetically pleasing product than glue or stitching.

To clean and maintain Textilene® we recommend Barlow Tyrie Woven and Textilene Cleaner®. This product prevents any residue remaining after the cleaning process.
